Josh Meader Trio: Tides of Time

They just keep coming; we have another amazing guitarist in our midst, 27-year old Australian Phenom Josh Meader. His amazing technique combined with a crystal clear clean tone is nothing short of wonderful. I’ve often said I focus on the guitarist, but the music and musicians are fantastic on Tides of Time. Matthew Thomson (piano) and Alex Hirlian (drums) are integral to the music and strength of the album. If the opening “Ultraviolet� doesn’t convince you, I’m not sure what will. The music is highly melodic, while also extremely intricate, and the interplay between the musicians is mind-blowing.

Time and Tide is Meader's debut, and he lets everyone shine. Pianist Matthew Thomson is equally amazing, the purity of the piano shines through. The intro of “Energy� is a perfect example, and as you get further into the song, the piano and guitar together are magic. Hirlian's drumming displays dynamics and drive, honestly I can’t say enough about these three. The music is intense, but open and breathes, with moments of atmosphere and subtlety. Some of my favorite moments are the piano and guitar playing in “Belmont Peak�,and the moody & intricate interplay during “Dark Summer�, a track where I really like Meander's phrasing. That guitar riff in "5ive" is fantastic, you’ll immediately hear it, and it will make your head spin. I would have liked to hear Meader add a little dirt to his tone once in a while, but that’s a minor complaint. All I can say is guitar lovers, this one is not to be missed
