Nile: The Underworld Awaits Us All

South Carolina's technical death metal legends Nile have returned with album number ten, The Underworld Awaits Us All. This is one of those bands that have just never released a bad album, and no matter what the line-up is, the end results are always a mind-blowing, brutal, and technical affair. For this latest Napalm Records release, the Nile line-up is as follows:

Vocals, Guitar, Bass, Keyboards: Karl Sanders
Guitar, Vocals: Zach Jeter
Bass: Dan Vadim Von
Drums: George Kollias
Guitar, Vocals: Brian Kingsland

Yes, you read that right...three guitar players! Nile is one of those bands whose guitar assault is only dialed up to 11, so with three players here, you can expect more of those bone-crushing riffs and blazing, technical solos. This time around, the songs seem a tad shorter, but they are no less impactful, which you can hear right from the opening track bombast (I'm not going to get into the song titles here, as in typical Nile fashion, they tend to be quite lengthy...just scroll down for the titles!). While there are plenty of blazing, faster death metal tracks here that feature rapid-fire riffs and manic drumming from the legend that is George Kollias, it's the slower, grinding, and doomier stuff that generally gets me even more excited, as on "Overlords of the Black Earth" and "Under the Curse of One God". The production throughout is outstanding, and the pace of the album will leave you breathless but wanting more. Check out the killer title track, which is just so brutal and unrelenting...these guys can flat-out play and knock you senseless. I love everything they've done so far, and with The Underworld Awaits Us All, Nile have once again continued to set the bar for brutal and technical death metal, and with the added Middle Eastern elements tossed in, they have one of the more unique styles in extreme metal.
