With the first volume of Mets Tes Lunettes et Écoute Comme Ça Sent Bon! Vol. 1 (originally released in 1976), the French quartet Coincidence established itself as a serious prog-fusion-jazz ensemble anchored by twin lead guitarists/brothers Jean-Pierre and Jean-Claude Llabador. On Mets Tes Lunettes et Écoute Comme Ça Sent Bon! Vol. 2 (released in 1979 and originally titled Clef de Ciel), Coincidence added another drummer and continued its excursions into at times laid-back and at other times funky instrumental art rock that sounds primarily of its time. I can imagine this being huge when it was released, provided the music found its way to the right ears. Presented today as part of a series of reissues and new releases from Jean-Pierre Llabador -- who survived a car crash and life-threatening health issues in recent years -- Mets Tes Lunettes et Écoute Comme Ça Sent Bon! Vol. 2 provides a neat look into another musical era and gives us some sonic artifacts worthy of attention.
Note: The album title translates to the clever phrase, Put On Your Glasses and Listen to How Good It Smells; the original title of the second volume, Clef de Ciel, translates to Key of the Sky.
