New Jersey singer songwriter Jodelle's debut release The Adventures of Jodelle is a shimmering collection of pop ballads, classical tinged rockers, and gentle piano driven numbers. Not really what you would expect to read about here on Sea of Tranquility, but there are many decent songs here that might appeal to prog and metal faithful who frequent this site, especially those that like a little pop in their life every now and then. Songs like "Shrinking Violet", with its soaring violins that recall early 80's Kansas, or the alluring "Once in Blue Moon", complete with some lovely Beatles inspired vocals from Jodelle to go along with her lovely piano and synth textures. Hard rock guitars meet up with driving piano on the kicking "Rabit Cage", one of the strongest cuts on the CD. Too bad there's not more of this, but it really seems that the singer feels more at home on the syrupy piano type ballads. Jodelle has a strong voice, and there's plenty of melodic accompaniment throughout to keep this interesting for the Tori Amos, Sarah McLachlan, Fiona Apple, and Joni Mitchell crowd.
