Let's get the personal pet peeve out of the way right off the bat. Why do artists want to be known as "A", "T", and "Dead K". It just kills any chance to actually feel like you can get to know a band, when their monikers are as unimaginative as that. Okay, I feel better, one rant out of the way. Lack of imagination is not something that I associate with Green Milk From The Planet Orange. If nothing else, they aren't afraid to attempt something new and creative.
The album City Calls Revolution starts off with the 20 minute "Concrete City Breakdown" which blends a Power Trio, psychedelic, and grindcore vocal sections. The vocals are fairly weak in comparison to the instrumental sections which groove on and on without getting stale. "OMGS" doesn't have the art-rock feel of the previous song and suffers because of it. It leans more on just straight core-rocking to make its point, and at 7 minutes, gets a little redundant.
City Calls Revolution is not going to appeal to everyone. Writing powerful, experimental music that goes on and on, like the 38 minute "A Day In The Planet Orange" is unique and brave. In many cases Green Milk From The Planet Orange pull off this experiment. What I find most remarkable is that I can not even come up with another band to compare these guys to. Bands like Acid Mothers Temple have some of the same sound, but not the crazy directions and mixture of styles. If you are looking for something different, and you like your rock driving, this CD might be a good fit for you.
