This 2 DVD collection of live Prong concert material is a must have for the dedicated fan, and a must see for casual listeners or the uninitiated. This band flat out rocks, and their brand of stoner grooves mixed with industrial, techno, and metallic hardcore fury really is in fine form on this set. The first DVD features the entire 2002 performance at Amsterdam's MELKWEG as well as a short set from the 2003 "With Full Force" festival in Germany. Both shows are jam packed with classic tunes and enjoyable, with very good sound and video quality, and see the band ripping through many of their heavy classics like "Rude Awakening", "Prove You Wrong", "Lost and Found", "Dark Signs" along with many others. Prong manage to combine both effective stage presence and ultra catchy & crunchy guitar riffs, and although their sound definitely falls in the metal camp, there are elements to their music that, especially in a live setting, will appeal to fans of many genres, like industrial, prog-rock, and classic rock. Leader Tommy Victor has a guitar tone to die for, as he unleashes punishing Sabbath inspired riff after riff, and his vocals run the gamut from clean and soulful, to raging hardcore shouts and death metal growls.
DVD # 2 contains has a kick ass show from the 2003 Hulsfred Festival in Sweden, plus some extra bonus interviews, videos, and Japanese TV show footage. The combined package makes for a few hours worth of essential Prong viewing. If you haven't yet checked out this band (and considering how long they have been around it's about time you do), and you like groups like Queens of the Stone Age, Biohazard, Corrosion of Conformity, Helmet, On A Pale Horse, or Clutch, check them out.
