Phobos: Tectonics

Tectonics is an extreme metal release where all the instrumentation gets run through the distortion machine many times over, creating a hellish industrial mess of incessant pounding and downright evil vocals, over some doomy, repetitive power chords. Thank God for the pauses in between tracks or else it would be impossible to tell when one track ends and another begins; as there aren't too many of what I'd label "musical ideas" on this release, yet the band is being compared to Voivod !

Is this a good extreme metal disc or a bad one?- How the hell should I know! I guess it's good if you want to evacuate your house after a party that has gone on just a bit too long or if you want to scare the piss out of your too-nosey neighbors. It's a bad one if you're looking for any kind of cohesion or musicality in your music. Since I'm usually looking for the latter (and my neighbors have reasons enough to fear me already), I'll let you conclude for yourself where I stand on this release and this genre in general.
