The Nihilish Demos is a snapshot of the early Swedish death metal scene in the late 80's. Nihilist would later disband, and the members would go on to form bands like Entombed, Unleashed, Comecon, and the Hellacopters, all important on the early death metal scene. This CD contains the only known recordings of the band, and while the production is a little rough around the edges, there's some brutal and blistering stuff here, many of the tunes later reworked and becoming Entombed classics. Tunes like "The Truth Beyond" and "Shreds of Flesh" are pounding examples of 80's death, with thick beefy slabs of distorted guitars, fuzz bass, and ghoulish vocals. Many of the songs are fairly short, but one of the longer pieces, "Severe Burns", has some neat tempo changes to go along with the stampeding riffs.
If you are at all interested in the early years of European extreme/death metal, this CD needs to find its way into your collection.
