Recorded live in Canada on the SYL tour, For Those Aboot to Rock-Live at the Commodore is a kick ass live show from the maniacal Devin Townsend & Strapping Young Lad. This is 70 minutes of balls-to-the-wall metal, call it thrash, call it extreme, call it what you will, but one thing the music of SYL certainly can be called is intense and pummeling. The band rampages through 14 songs in this set, playing most of the SYL album, which at the time had just been released, as well as select songs from City and Heavy As A Really Heavy Thing. The sound is suberb, the camera work very effective, and the performance of the band is top notch. Heavy, speed-metal guitar riffs, throbbing bass, the juggernaut drums of Gene Hoglan, and plenty of atmospheric keyboards, all make up the sound of SYL, and add in the over-the-top and otherwordly screams of Townsend and you have quite a formidable band. If you've never seen SYL live, the between song banter and one-liners of Townsend are hilarious to see, and watching the monstrous form of Hoglan battering his drum kit with the speed of light is truly an experience.
For extras you get two videos, some backstage fun, and interviews. If you are an SYL fan, this is a must purchase. No explaination needed...just get it!
