Former Genesis and GTR guitar legend Steve Hackett assembled a hot line-up a few years back for a tour of Japan, and one of the shows happened to be recorded for this new DVD release. Joining Hackett is John Wetton on bass/vocals/acoustic guitar (Asia/King Crimson/UK/Roxy Music/Uriah Heep), Ian McDonald on flute/sax/keyboards/vocals (King Crimson/Foreigner), Chester Thompson on drums (Genesis/Frank Zappa/Weather Report), and keyboard player Julian Colbeck (Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe). The band performs a wide assortment of songs from the past, all expertly filmed in front of an enthusiastic audience.
Genesis classics such as "Watcher of the Skies", "Firth of Fifth" (complete with a monstrous Hackett guitar solo), "In That Quiet Earth", "Los Endos", and "I Know What I Like" are played with renewed vigor, with Wetton handling most of the lead vocals. Wetton also covers his song "Battlelines" and an acoustic version of the Asia hit "Heat of the Moment." King Crimson fans will revel in the inclusion of "The Court of the Crimson King" and "I Talk to the Wind" , which features some great flute playing and Mellotron sounds from McDonald. Hackett also covers a bunch of tunes from his many solo albums, the highlights being "Riding the Colossus", "Shadow of the Hierophant", and the lovely "Walking Away from Rainbows." Steve is in fine form, displaying his unique talents on both electric and acoustic guitars throughout.
A winner of a DVD all around. Considering that there is not enough progressive rock music represented in DVD format, this is a must have for any fan of the genre.
