Here's a little 4 song demo from a progressive rock band from Greece called Ethereal Status. These guys play an aggressive and complex form of prog that borders on prog-metal at times, but they like to hit you with plenty of intricate guitar and keyboard passages that carry a fair amount of melody. Three of the four songs are instrumentals, and quite frankly this band seems to work best this way. Vocalist Clare O'Reilly doesn't have a bad voice, but she sounds more like a jazz or lounge singer, and mixed with the prog-metal sounds on "Rejected" she just sounds out of place. The other three songs are pretty decent instrumentals with lots of keyboard and guitar interplay. No keyboard player is listed, so I'm not sure who is playing them, but there's a mixture of organ, electric piano and synth sounds that work pretty well off the crunchy guitar work of Panayotis Anagnostou. Out of the three, "Aggressive Melody" is pretty hot, with tasty and heavy riffs and blazing synth runs. While this band still needs some work (some of the arrangements seem hashed together and lacking in cohesion), there's some promise heard here that would lead me to believe that a focus on their direction and a good producer might turn up some good results. Keep it going guys, the foundation is there!
