Legends was a supergroup made up of Eric Clapton on guitars, Marcus Miller on bass, Joe Sample on piano, David Sanborn on alto sax, and Steve Gadd on drums. The project was the brainchild of Miller , who handpicked all the members for a brief 11-show tour of Europe, including of course, the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival on the 4th of July 1997. This show was filmed for posterity and the result is the DVD currently under review. The material selected for the set was specifically chosen to emphasize each member. The tracks fall mostly in the lighter bop/ jump blues category; something to draw the masses. Fans of Clapton's bluesy side will be well served as "slow hand" unleashes many of his patented solos throughout this 13-track concert. Not to be outdone, the rest of the 'legends' also showcase their chops, albeit in a more reserved fashion.
The DVD is professionally shot using many camera angles. The audio is available in 2.0, 5.1 and DTS for your listening pleasure. By and large, I think that Clapton fans will want to purchase this DVD.
