Blessing The Hogs: The Twelve Gauge Solution
The sophomore release from San Francisco's Blessing The Hogs is an exercise in brutal unrelenting musical mayhem. The Twelve Gauge Solution features intense, in your face vocals, savage dropped tuned riffing and a frenetic drum assault that pounds the listener into submission. The band is guitarist / vocalist Billy Anderson's baby and he's also the studio wizard who's worked with well known established bands such as Brutal Truth, Eyehategod and Fantomas to name only a few. While Blessing The Hogs' sound does at times resemble these acts, their straight ahead attack and sledge hammer riffs at times reminded me of the glory days of Pantera. The music and lyrics are not only extreme but the song titles and whole layout of the disc are as well. The cover is an image of a man apparently attempting to blow his brains out with what else, a twelve gauge shotgun. Open the CD booklet and see how he fared, there are photos and live shots of the band members mixed with droplets of blood, severed limbs and pieces of brain matter, definitely not for the faint of heart. The creepy images, song titles and lyrics all match the strength and power that the band generates in their music, this CD is a 60 minute dance through the underground. Also worth checking out is the enhanced portion of the disc which includes a pac man style video game along with a video for the song "Let's Play Doctor..Kevorkian". If you like extreme hardcore / metal than Blessing The Hogs is for you and The Twelve Gauge Solution could end up being the perfect soundtrack for when cabin fever gets the best of you this winter.
