Sons of Science, the eclectic instrumental power trio formerly known as Humans, is currently working on its first full-length CD called Thinking. But Sons of Science have issued a three-song demo to give listeners a musical taste of the new record, which was originally slated for release in 2005 but apparently is not yet available. Guitarist John McGlasson, bassist Dan Gillman and drummer Derek Bachtold are smart musicians equally adept at playing country-western fusion ("Truckstop") and prog-metal fusion ("Varkovsky Thrust"). But the highlight of Humans: The Demo is Sons of Science's cover of the timeless 1927 Louis Prima classic "Sing, Sing, Sing" — adopted for guitar and bass by McGlasson and Gillman from the many performances of the song by Benny Goodman and his orchestra. McGlasson tweaks his guitar to sound like a clarinet, and Gillman turns his bass into entire horn sections. The big-band drums sound awesome, too.
