Flashbacks to Jethro Tull, Anekdoten and perhaps even early Genesis will be abundant when spinning the debut CD from The Carpet Knights, a Swedish quintet awash in rock, prog, folk and psych influences. In fact, a carefree Seventies vibe pervades most of Lost and So Strange Is My Mind. Magnus Nilsson's laid-back vocals and prominent flute drive these nine tunes, as guitars double as synths and groovy effects on songs like "Zonked" and "The Mist" strive for a more-contemporary sound via groovy vocal effects that land somewhere between Stone Temple Pilots and The Flower Kings. For the most part, though, this disc is a throwback to another era — one in which this new band desperately sounds as if it wanted to take part.
