¿Mysterioso?, the 2nd full length album from Oakland, CA based trio Totimoshi is a good mixture of sludgy riffs with hooks of the post 80's garage and punk rock. With heavy fuzzed out guitars with melodies and at times very adventurous and improvisational, ¿Mysterioso? is a very Stoner Rock type of CD. Fans of The Melvins, Queens of the Stone Age, and even NYC's Helmet, will feel right at home with this record.
The 8 song CD (with video for the song "Cellophane") is laden with heavy grooves and acid sensibilities, with berserk energy and careless abandon. Check out the track "Screwed". Drummer Johann Zamora goes Grind-core crazy and the heavy guitar riff evens reminds you of a Zakk Wylde/BLS-ish type of riffology. Totimoshi creates pulsating, moving beats, which is what this band is all about. Imagine an even more stoner version of Clutch and you're getting there! The sludge factor here is HUGE, and the guitars just ooze of it.
Avant-garde, and even a tad sloppy in spots, but that's the point with this Bay Area band. Totimoshi's sound, while reminiscent of others, still very much have there own thing going on here. Dark and brooding are the first words that come to mind. ¿Mysterioso? is heavy on groove, with different tunings and passionately delivered vocals.
So...Spark it up, sit back and Drift away
