A San Francisco Bay area female vocalist and a male multi-instrumentalist from Poland may seem like an odd musical pairing. And, in fact, it is. But Teresa Camp and Jack Tatarek somehow crossed paths — perhaps drawn together by their turbulent childhoods and toxic relationships — and decided to make ambient metal that embraces components of classic rock and gothic music. Think Alanis Morissette meets latter-period Theatre of Tragedy. The album's title is an accurate one, as Arcane Dimension touches on several different lyrical emotions, from the effects of growing up in a religious cult ("Questioning Lies") to the quest for hope ("The Art of Dreaming"). Much of the keyboard-driven music sounds the same, and the dreariness can induce weariness. But, clearly, Arcane Dimension are creating European-style music that is uncommon on American shores.
