From the land that gave us the Hockey God, Wayne Gretzky, comes Toronto's own The Illuminati. A Canadian trio that sounds less like Rush & more like a dirty, drunk cross between Clutch, The Unband & even Queens of the Stoneage!
This 6 song EP is full of short, straight ahead bar room, drinking tunes. The first thing that comes to mind is that guitarist Les Godfrey is a on old Thin Lizzy fan! That earns many points in my book, right there! Godfrey , even though only a 3 piece outfit, does his best Lizzy "Fighting era" harmony guitar lines. Both Scott Gorham & Brian Robertson would flash a smile at the obvious nod to their great mid '70's work.
The Illuminati sound like they are having a good time, and it comes across in their simple Motorhead type, no bullshit delivery. "Lemmy Know", opens this EP, and it goes right for the throat. "Salon Kitty" is a song that you can just smell is an alcohol laced rocker.
This is a fun, short EP that is just plain old Rock n Roll. Short sweet & to the point! A "No Frills" CD for sure. If you like your Rock unpretentious, then check out our friends from the North, The Illuminati. It'll be fun!
