Fans of Sarah McLachlan, Torri Amos, and modern day The Gathering will find much to like on the debut release from Mary titled In the Head of a Dreamer. Mary is the band put together by Danish singer/guitarist Marie Ingerslev, and also features drummer Kalle Mathiesen (who many will know from Kalle's World Tour) keyboard player Kenneth Hansen, bassist Thommy Andersson, and sax/clarinet player Torben Snekkestad. The music on the CD is breezy, jazzy, dreamy pop music, with Marie's gorgeous and alluring vocals leading the way over sparse instrumentation that features light Fender Rhodes, acoustic guitars, and percussion, with the occasional sax or clarinet solo from Snekkestad. Lyrically, Marie takes us through her many thoughts and opinions on life and death and where each takes us to, and it's an enjoyable ride that never really strays to any one extreme, but both lyrically and musically In the Head of a Dreamer is a pleasant listen that should really find a home with jazz and pop fans worldwide.
