What do you get when you combine brutal & screaming metal-core, the complexity of the Gothenburg scene, the atmospheric and progressive nature of symphonic black metal, and the commercial aspects of emo? Well, you get the band Bleeding Through of course! The band's latest album on Trustkill Records The Truth is chock full of slammin' metal tracks bristling with plenty of brutality but enough catchy aspects to give it a wide appeal to many different types of musical preferences.
Imagine a cross between Killswitch Engage, Soilwork, Hatebreed, Slayer, Dimmu Borgir, Fear Factory, Black Dahlia Murder, At the Gates, and HIM, and you get some sort of an idea what to expect with Bleeding Through. When these guys want to knock you over with catchy hooks and commercial sounding clean vocals, as they do on "Love in Slow Motion" and "Kill to Believe", you wonder just when MTV and rock radio will fall to their knees and bow. For the most part though, this album is filled with growled vocals, sledgehammer riffs and manic rhythms, supplemented nicely by heaping amounts of keyboards from Marta who adds the right amount of gothic and progressive texture. Tunes like "The Painkiller", "Dearly Demented", and "She's Gone" are pummeling numbers that should easily click with fans of Lamb of God, and the atmospheric tunes "Line in the Sand" and the instrumental title track have a wonderful gothic appeal which adds some variety.
This is really good stuff from start to finish. The Truth shows a band that's trying to do something a little different by offering up fast and heavy extreme metal painted with a touch of melodic clean vocals to add that hint of commercial appeal, as well as atmopsheric keyboards to draw in the gothic and prog rock crowd. The next big thing? Perhaps. Time will tell.
