Pro-Pain: Pro-Pain
Pro-Pain have always been one of those bands who are awarded significant
underground stature by both critics and fans alike, but I've never quite been
able to see what all the fuss is about. Granted, they don't totally suck, but
there are a whole slew of bands doing this same thing with more imagination, and
besides: how much of this plodding hardcore can one person ingest without
becoming malnourished?
I'm always surprised when old hard rock bands with members over the age of 40
are considered "dinosaur rock", when the lazy, lumbering imagery the term
connotates applies much more vividly to bands like Pro-Pain. They just don't
seem to be in a hurry to get anywhere, and it's sad to see that the pissed off
outrage that hardcore used to stand for has been mongrelized into the pitiful,
indifferent posturing bands like Pro-Pain feel compelled to portray. The only
song on this album I'd be willing to hear again is "Don't Kill Yourself To
Live", which actually has a pretty catchy chorus. Otherwise, "Pro-Pain" is one
release where the generic, unimaginative packaging gives a perfect impression of
the product inside.
