Scum is somewhat of a supergroup made up of well traveled veterans of the black metal and punk scene-Casey Chaos (Amen), Samoth and Faust (Emperor), Cosmocrator (Mindgrinder), and Happy Tom (Turbonegro). The end result on Gospels for the Sick though is pretty much metallic punk rock, thanks to the vocals of Chaos, who gives each song a Sex Pistols-like delivery. Guest appearances by Nocturno Culto (Darkthrone) Mortiis, and Knut "Euroboy" Schrieder (Turbogenero/Euroboys) add some variety to a few tracks, but again, don't expect much in the way of black metal or anything really extreme. You get a few thrash riffs, some double bass drum mayhem, but mostly raw, punk infused anthems that after a while all begin to sound the same, but allow for plenty of sing-along choruses and the occasional rock guitar solo. File under fun but ultimately forgettable.
