Eagle Vision continues its "classic album" DVD series with a look at Queen's A Night At The Opera release, one of the all-time legendary rock albums. This classic was originally released in 1975, and became Queen's first platinum album. The DVD documentary breaks down the entire album, going track by track, with interview clips featuring guitarist Brian May, drummer Roger Taylor, producer Roy Thomas Baker, Aerosmith's Joe Perry, Extreme's Nuno Bettencourt, Ian Hunter from Mott the Hoople, as well as various other people associated with Queen plus some top music journalists. Vintage concert footage, videos, as well as interviews with the late Freddie Mercury are all spliced in, but some of the most fascinating aspects of the DVD is hearing producer Roy Thomas Baker, as well as May and Taylor, talk about how they got all the wild sounds on the album. In addition, May pulls out his electric and 12 strings guitars and gives some insight on how he came up with specific riffs and solos for many of the songs, and even plays a poignant version of "Love of My Life", one of the band most tender and endearing songs.
After viewing the DVD, it really makes you realize (if you didn't already know it) what a true classic this album is, and what a groundbreaking band Queen were. There's roughly 50 minutes of bonus features including extra interviews and performances, including a full clip of the band playing "Sweet Lady" live at Hyde Park in 1976 in front of a huge outdoor audience. In short, this is a must for any Queen fanatic or rock and roll fan.
