Mexican based Hacavitz serve up an absolutely lethal dose of death/ black metal on their latest disc called Venganza released through Moribund Records.
The opening percussion and voodoo like jungle sounds of the instrumental introduction on "Nightwinds" sets the listener up perfectly for a sonic kick to the head as the blast beats and savage riffing begin in earnest. The band rips through the first 4 tracks with savage intensity, only slowing the tempo on one or two occasions as vocalist Antimo Buonnano keeps busy with his brutal death growl vocals and eerie between song screams and throat cutting gurgling. The band does mix things up tempo wise by slowing things down a bit on the 5th number "Old Rancor" but "Lusting The Dead Ov Nite" and the title track "Venganza" has them cranking the intensity level back up again as Buoanno and fellow guitarist Eduardo Guevara churn out some riffs that would make originators like Slayer and Morbid Angel flash a horned salute in approval. The overall sound and attitude on Venganza reeks of old school death metal and yet they also manage to conjure up the ghostly like atmospherics of black metal as well. Venganza is a brutal and inspired statement that should garner them some attention and fans of death/ black metal should definitely give these guys a listen.
