West, John: Long Time ... No Sing
If, like me, you're tired of hearing vocalist John West kowtowing to the musical whims of Artension's Vitalij Kuprij and Royal Hunt's Andre Andersen, may I present to you Long Time … No Sing — a song-oriented melodic rock record that shows off the singer's vocal dynamics more than his work with either band, and without the overindulgent bombast. Savatage rhythm guitarist Chris Caffery and drummer Jeff Plate join West (who also plays lead guitar) on these 11 tracks, most of which hold up well to repeat listens. There's the bluesy rock of "Give Me a Sign" that echoes West's work with Badlands, the muscular mid-tempo ballad "One More Lie" and the one-two-three middle-of-the-record punch of the straight-ahead rockers "Over My Head," "The One That Got Away" and "Falling Down." In a nod to his other bands, "Puerto Amor" is a beautiful neoclassical instrumental piece that closes the album on an appropriate note.

West, John: Long Time ... No Sing Posted by Carlos Canales Vega on 2007-08-10 19:14:53 My Score:
This cd is kinda weird. The first three songs (not counting the short intro) are real gems, but after that, i'd be hard pressed to find standouts.Still, those songs and the soulful voice and delivery of John West make me recommend this to you, the buyer.
