Dynamic's four song demo, Rules Do Not Apply, combines a jam-band approach with hard rock sensibilities. "Uncle Bob" has a good String Cheese Incident feel to it, where as "The Beauty of Simplicity" is based on the standard blues riff, enhanced by Anders Lindskog's walking bass. This is the closest Sweden has gotten to Memphis.
John Huldt's guitar-work is not flashy. It tends to be very riff based and repetitive, but the song structure changes keep it from getting monotonous. "The Ocean Floor Slumber" shows a tight maturity, with the interaction of the songs flow and stretches, as the calm guitar / bass gives way to long solo sections. My favorite track is "Well This Ain't Kansas" with its simplistic overtones and excellent counter melodies it is both easy and difficult at the same time.
Rules Do Not Apply is the third demo CD by Dynamic and has a great feel to it. I just wonder about the ability to promote an all-instrumental, three-piece jam band from Sweden. As tight as this group is, it's hard for me to recommend that they try new things, but really, the only hope of continued improvement will be to branch off into new and more diverse territory.
