Legendary guitarist Larry Coryell teams up with fellow six stringers John Abercrombie and Brazilian Badi Assad for this excellent, sit down concert which was filmed in front of a packed house at the famed New Morning Jazz Club in Paris in 2004.
Over the course of almost 2 hours Coryell, Abercrombie and Assad trade acoustic licks in unison as a trio but throughout the concert they also substitute for each other and play in a duo format as well. It's no surprise that Coryell and Abercrombie are the real fret burners here as they both have been making their mark in both the jazz and rock world for well over thirty years now. Coryell may look like the guy next door with his glasses, non descript t-shirt and pants; while Abercrombie could pass for one of your old university professors with his spectacles down around the end of his nose, eyes closed in concentration in front of his musical charts. However make no mistake about it once they strap on their guitars it's quite apparent that you are witnessing two of the finest in the business who are at the top of their game. As for Badi Assad, her Latin flavored rhythm's and various sound effects she makes with her voice are very unique and it's an absolute joy to watch her accompaniments mesh perfectly with the other two. Her singing is angelic and really adds a lot of depth and color to the music played on this DVD. It takes a certain breed of musician to strip everything bare and perform for almost 2 hours acoustically, but these three have the chops to pull it off with ease. Watching the dynamic interplay and the way they all play together in perfect unison is really something to behold. This DVD is one you will want to play over and over again to marvel in wonder and perhaps a bit of envy, at just how effortless it is for muscians of this caliber.
