Crushing guitar riffs, technical drum blasts, screaming vocals, and catchy arrangements all make up the fourth release from The Acacia Strain. Overall, this is some pretty brutal stuff here that doesn't let up for one second, and while on the surface it may seem like your run-of-the-mill metalcore, the level of technicality and pure heaviness of the riffs help it rise above anything that could be considered "typical". The vocals here alternate between hardcore styled screaming rants and deep death metal growls, giving the music plenty of attitude and menace, but it's the incredible drum work and overpowering guitar work that really works wonders here and will certainly induce a meltdown. At times the band gets into a Meshuggah-like groove, with machine-gun drum patterns and huge power riffs that stop and start with furious intent. Tracks like "Burnface", "4 x 4", "Whoa! Shut It Down!", and the title track just absolutely annihilate anything in its path, helping to make The Dead Walk one of this years heavy hitters of the metal genre. If you can't get enough of crushing, plodding riffing, wild pinch harmonics, intense drumming, and angry vocals (basically the Pantera formula, just kicked up a notch) then get out to your local CD shop and pick this up- pronto!
