Baltimoore: X

The prolific Bjorn Lodin returns with the aptly titled X, Baltimoore's tenth album and third release in the last 14 months. Once again the album has been conceived, recorded, mixed, mastered, produced and issued by Lodin's own BLP music. Returning are mainstays Hempo Hilden on drums, Weine Johansson on bass and Mankus Sedenberg on rhythm guitars. Also returning, for the first time on an album of original material since 2000's Original Sin, is respected axeman Thomas Larsson (ex -Glenn Hughes). The aggregate is certainly a top notch amalgamation of Scandinavian hard rock.

There seems to be no end to Lodin's creativity. Once again his distinctive vocal timbre would seem to be at the top of its game. X contains another set of the classic crunchy tunes Baltimoore is renowned for. This one kick's things up a notch from the tamer sounding kaleidoscope released earlier this year. The generally warmer, classier and tastier riffing from Larsson adds just the right touch to this great set of alternatively powerful and melodic tunes from Bjorn. After a punchy modern sounding intro "Cumgum", "Tables Turn" is a very Zeppelinish rocker right down to Bjorn's Plant-like vocal take. "2&2" starts with a nice atmospheric vibe that develops into a classic bluesy rock tune. Another great track, "Fleeting As The Moment" develops from a cool drum driven slide guitar intro into an anthemic crunch fest. There will always be a market for music of this quality. If you like modern sounding classic rock delivered with respect taste and passion, you will enjoy this album.

The sampler I have heard sounds excellent and your review sealed my pre-order. Just wish I could make to Sweden to see a live date.
