Black metal from Connecticut is all the rage on One Master's full length demo Forsaking a Dead World. This is raw, powerful stuff, and despite the rather rough sounding production, the CD contains 6 blistering tracks of old school styled black metal that will make every fan of Immortal and Dissection take notice. The pounding opener "The Dark Tower" spews forth plenty of bone crunching riffs and furious tremelo picked harmony guitars, as well as evil vocals and relentless drum blasts. The chainsaw guitar riffs of "Chill of the Grave" will cut through you like a knife, and the bleak arrangements of "Master of the Past and the Present" are so harsh and foreboding that you would swear that this song was recorded in Norway circa 1992. It all adds up to an album that certainly has plenty going for it, and perhaps with some tighter production on their next release One Master will propel themselves to the top of the US black metal heap. They have the songwriting chops, obvious musical talent, and are just extreme and melodic enough to make a serious statement.
