From Scotland comes Terra Diablo, a four piece band that throws pop hooks, hard rock muscle, the exhuberance of alternative rock, and the mysterious nature of prog, all at the listener. One minute you hear influences like REM, The Foo Fighter, or Muse, then a little Peter Gabriel, Tool,Marillion, and Rush comes crashing into the mix. Musically, these guys have it down pat, as the songs are tight and crisp, loaded with catchy melodies, smart and textured guitar riffs, driving rhythms, and confident vocals. Ian Fairclough handles the lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Davey McAuley is on lead guitar and backing vocals, Stu Mileham on bass, and drummer Davie Calder round out the line-up. Overall this is pretty good stuff, and while they don't really live up to their namesake (Devil's Earth), there's a wealth of varied material here that reeks of promise. Judging by how well these guys can play and how good they are at crafting catchy, memorable melodies, I see a bright future ahead of them.
