Don't expect to be knocked over with originality on the Goodfellow Records debut from Passion. The Fierce Urgency of Now has many elements of most metalcore release, like the non-stop screaming vocals, tempos that never let up, brutal guitar riffs, and relentless drum work. However, these five young lads throw a level of technicality into their music that goes above and beyond what many who mire around in the metalcore genre usually accomplish. If you like some clean vocals mixed among the screams, forget it, you won't get that here. Kenny's bloodcurdling shouts almost seem to be fighting the guitars for supremacy here to see who can be more brutal, and at times that can get kind of grating ("The Natural" is a good example of how frustrating this endless battle of brutality can get). However, there's no shortage of kick ass riffage, crunchy breakdowns, and shred-o-riffic lead fills throughout The Fierce Urgency of Now, as Sheerin and Tony prove to be formidable axe-wielders. Depending on your tolerance level for non-stop screaming vocals will ultimately decide your enjoyment of this CD-as far as relentless metalcore goes, this is pretty fair stuff, that for my book needs a tad more variety to raise it above average, but I'm sure there's loads of people out there who will go ape-shit for this.
