Ahab Rex is really only bassist, guitarist and vocalist Ivan (no last name given), plus lots of musical guests — including past and present members of Nine Inch Nails, Pigface, Ministry, Information Society, Public Image Limited, Berlin and Revolting Cocks. If that kind of guest list turns you on, you should love Blood on Blonde — an indie-pop/rock record bursting with syncopated hooks, buzzing guitars, aggressive (and sometimes caustic) male vocals meshed with dreamy female vocals, tortured-soul lyrics and dark overtones. "Musically, we're a mess," says Ivan in the press sheet accompanying this 12-track disc. "I've no interest in sticking with one sound." And so its goes, Blood on Blonde working itself in and out of musical messes and unlikely arrangements while still managing to sound like too much of the same.
Ahab Rex also recently released an EP that features five versions of one of Blood on Blonde's lamer songs, "The Queen of Softcore." More like the king of overkill.
