Woodrow Lin is a New York based funk-rock musician/composer, and his new album is titled Love Screams War. Blending funk, hard rock, and blues styles, Love Screams War is a decent listen for those who likes such acts as Sly and the Family Stone, Prince, Robin Trower, Alice in Chains, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Red Hot Chile Peppers, and Cactus. Lin is a solid singer and has considerable guitar chops, evident on songs like "Sneaky Son of a Bitch", "I Like the Way You Walk", and "I Give It Up". Never one to over play, Lin drops in plenty of funky, bluesy, wah-wah drenched licks throughout Love Screams War, while his rhythm section of drummer John Rubin and bassist Steve Bonacio (although it looks like Lin handles the bass work on the album) hold down a steady groove. There's really something for everyone here, whether you like heavy duty funk, gritty rock, slow blues, and acoustic based numbers, but I just wish that Lin would really break out a little and let it rip, as for the most part things are rather restrained on Love Screams War. Let's see if Woodrow and his band can cut loose a little more on their next release.
