Until Eternity Ends is the 1995 EP from the late Swedish melodic (and sometimes very progressive) death metal act Edge of Sanity. Fronted by multi-instrumentalist/singer/producer Dan Swano, this release features four songs that were written & recorded at the same time as Edge of Sanity's fourth album Purgatory Afterglow, but were left off for various reasons. If you are familiar with the music of this band, one quick listen to the tunes on Until Eternity Ends will reveal why these songs did not make it on that album and instead wound up on this special EP. Musically speaking, these tunes are more straightforward that what you would normally expect from the band. Sure, there are death metal moments and some progressive elements, but check out the Metallica influences mixed with a gothic vibe on the title track (featuring clean and growled vocals), and the thick, chunky grooves on "Eternal Eclipse" for some different sounds from this band. "Bleed" is pure speedy thrash with just a hint of hardcore, with blistering drum work, crushing riffs, and guitarist Dread helming the microphone and delivering a mix of growls, shouts, and clean vocals. The real kicker here is the cover of the Police classic "Invisible Sun", done with a heavy, gothic/progressive vibe that only Edge of Sanity could have accomplished. Swano's vocals are very dreamy, and he is backed up by distorted guitar washes and plenty of trippy effects.
If you are a Dan Swano or Edge of Sanity completist, this is a tasty little morsel to seek out. It's only four songs, but it gives you a taste of some different styles from this legendary death metal band.
