Mirzadeh: The Creatures of Loviatar
Mirzadeh hails from the frozen land of Finland and The Creatures of Loviatar is the bands second CD of energetic, symphonic black metal. This quintet shows a real ability to successfully blend their keyboard heavy laden set of 10 tracks with plenty of tasteful and melodic guitar work. Vocalist and 2nd guitarist Mirox has a great scratchy and abrasive singing style throughout and lead guitarist Shagul delivers enough solos to whet the listener's appetite. Mirzadeh's secret weapon just may be their keyboardist Exitus who is featured prominently in the mix and his symphonic textures on the keys really compliment the heavy guitar riffs perfectly. If there is one thing holding The Creatures of Loviatar back it would be the fact that the majority of the songs don't differentiate that much from each other. It would have been great to see the band branch out with some longer tracks and experiment with changing tempos a bit more in order to keep things more interesting. However all in all this is a solid release from a band that shows plenty of potential.
