Oh man, this is bad-ass!!! Ever wondered what Internal Bleeding were always
meant to sound like in the studio? Ever thought what they could've accomplished
if they would've gotten decent production? You always knew how abrasive and
downright insane this type of New York style grinding death metal could be...
but up until now you haven't heard any band (that includes Suffocation and Dying
Fetus) that could really live up to the promise outside of the live setting. So
to make the long story short, Reincarnation have got it right this time!
Bulldozer-like heavyness mixed with relentless grinding guitar and top-notch
precise drumming is over the top!
"Void" sports a great cover by Pentagno. (He seems to be doing a lot of
covers recently, with him and Necrolord being the diabolic art directors of the
late 90's). It's kind of funny how there's always a duo of artists dominating
the extreme scene (remember SV Bell and Dan Seagrave in the beginning of the
decade?) Actually, Pentagno could be compared to SV Bell, while Necrolord is
very much like Dan with his pseudo-realistic drawings. History does repeat
itself over and over again, doesn't it? On a more personal note, I always
thought that the work that Vincent Locke did for Cannibal Corpse was superior;
remember all the zombie characters that he introduced us to... sick and
repulsive. Well, those were the days.
Reincarnation burst into the scene 2 years ago when they released their debut
EP called "Seed of Hate". While it was a reasonable debut from a young band,
they didn't really stand out due to its generic sounding songwriting. Well, this
time, the band has totally moved away towards a sound of their own. Heavy is the
word, with "Weed For Everybody" being their behemoth of the album. Colossal
riffs executed with conviction and skill fill the album, brutalizing the
listener up until the last second of "Diabolic Marijuana" being the closer. By
the way, as you may have guessed by now, the band are hardcore potsmokers and
feel rather strong about advocating the use of marijuana. Right on! It's about
time for all of us to stand against the goverment-supported hypocrisy.
Repulse records seem to be gaining an important momentum in the underground
right now, when death metal strives for the comeback. Reincarnation are one of
the signs that it will be back to punish the masses with an unadulturated
brutality and hatred like nothing else. The newcomers on Repulse seem to have a
strong sense of their own identity. As a proverb has it, there is no smoke
without fire; I feel the flames already licking the rotten corpse of the
bubblegum culture from where metal has been banished. All hail Reincarnation!
