Green Day meets Brian Eno meets Simple Minds? That's kind of what you get with this one-man band Robot Goes Here, who are really Dave Rand and his synthesized punk-wave presentation. The Byte Is In My Blood is as bizarre as it is unique, with Rand's quirky modern punk/new wave vocals jabbing over busy, ubeat computer synth arrangements and melodies. There's not a guitar, bass, or drum in sight here, and although the overall vibe is pretty sterile there's no denying the fun factor that can be had with these songs. Tunes like the poppy "The Minivan Diaries" and "What All the Screaming's About" feature a never ending array of blips and bleeps from Rand's IBM to go along with his happy yet nerdy vocals, and just when you've thought you've heard it all, there comes a cover of AC/DC's "Back In Black", done up in hilarious Brit pop fashion with programmed drum beats and cheesey synth tones.
I'm sure Dave Rand doesn't take himself too seriously, and probably had a blast putting this album together. While it's hard to recommend a recording of this nature, there's no denying that it is entertaining for what it is, but probably won't warrant more than a listen or two just to say you experienced it.
