Korein, George: Too Many Days

Things don't get more bizarre than the latest from George Korein, Too Many Days. Like a soundtrack to your worst nightmare (which might be an extended stay at a mental asylum), Korein and his array of vocal styles and instruments that include everything but the kitchen sink, out "avants" what you would normally consider avant-garde. This is pretty schitzophrenic stuff, like the ramblings of a madman, as the multi-instrumentalist/vocalist spews out plenty of angry ramblings, circus tomfoolery, warped-out jazz musings, and metallic prog excursions that will leave you scratching your head yet unwilling to hit the stop button, kind of like what happens when you drive by a roadside accident. "Love is for Pansies" is a like a head on collision between Frank Zappa and surf music, while "Writhe, Sally, Writhe" is demented metal at it's strangest. Distorted guitar rumblings permeate the space age lunacy that is "Constant Confrontation, and "Vagina Dentata Assembly Kit" has a certain 80's Todd Rundgren & Utopia feel to it, making it perhaps the most "normal" piece on this CD. Elsewhere, expect plenty of noodling created by all sorts of instruments, much of it easily classifiable as noise, and yet there are moments worth checking out, but with 15 tracks and over 45 minutes in length, those moments and fleeting and you'll find your patience being really tested.
