Shades of Dawn: From Dusk Till Dawn

This neo-progressive German outfit produced one album in 1998 titled The Dawn of Time. This follow up is made from reworked and overdubbed demo tapes of unreleased material from the same era. The production quality however belies its rude origins.

Stylistically, early Marillion clones, Anyone's Daughter or, in the spacier parts, Eloy are the touchstones for this fairly safe symphonic progressive outing. If you are looking for anything original however, you won't find it here.

The gentle melodies and airy arrangements beefed up with typical neo-prog arpeggios create a very pleasant background but the songs are severely let down by the cheesy lyrics and rather weak, heavily accented singing.

The most enjoyable parts are the extended keyboard and guitar melodies, for example at the end of the 9 minute long "Burning Drums", but overall this is distinctly average fare to be as kind as I can about it.
