Scent of Flesh: Deform In Torture
Finnish Death Metal band Scent of Flesh return with a new album and a new vocalist to go along with it. Guitarist Matti Viisainen has taken over all vocal duties after the band decided to part ways with Niko Ahokas. Deform In Torture is a step forward for the band musically, as their third full length release. It's obvious they have worked hard at honing their skills since their 2005 EP, Become Malignity, which followed up 2004's full length Valor In Hatred.
Deform In Torture reminds the listener of any number of American Death Metal bands. Not that it's such a bad thing. The twin guitar attack helps brings this thought to the forefront. The songs are tight and well structured without being overly technical.
Matti Viisainen's vocals are extremely powerful, making one wonder why he wasn't doing the vocals since the bands inception. Tracks such as "Living But Stillborn", "Delusions of Deity", and "One Holy Truth" help carry the album.
There really isn't anything too original here, just good straight ahead Death Metal as advertised. Fans of the genre may want to give Deform In Torture a listen.
