There's really only one San Fran band that's mastered the neo-psychedelic-cum-stoner sludge thing and that's Totimoshi. But Mirror Snake does its part, throws its hat in the ring, with tremendous accuracy and passion. Tracks such as "Your Mind Becomes You" and "Bring Back Tomorrow" are heavy enough, authentic enough that you might just have an LSD flashback even if you've never taken the drug before. If there's any criticism to be had of the way that Mirror Snake conducts itself on this 12-track recording it's that it pads the playlist with a series of vignettes that, although convincing, seem under-developed and unnecessary when placed alongside the record's heavy hitters. (The faux Doors vocal work on "Stop Motion City" also proves unnecessary and detracts from the unit's other, more convincing material.) A little more focus next time out and this collective's likely to score big points in the critical all-star game.
