Heat From a DeadStar: The Lighthouse

Batch of experimental tunes from this London collective. Not too much here that hasn't been done or heard by anyone who spent a little time obsessing over Skinny Puppy, Echo and the Bunnymen and that lot in the first year after high school but it's not bad either. "Elusive Ways" graciously grates, the way a Nitzer Ebb tune can when you've got it cranked full blast as you're tooling 'round the roundabout; "Joan" feels appropriately spacious and eerie, like the Velvets taking a stroll in a darkened park; "The Lighthouse" blows up with propulsive beats, a murky mix and everything you'd expect from a young English band. The closing "Black Swans" is pure electric fun and it, taken with its three sonic siblings, suggests there's more to this band than just being quirky. Decent.
