What do you get when you crossbreed Marilyn Manson's Twiggy (aka Jeordie White, now in Nine Inch Nails) with Masters of Reality's Chris Goss? Goon Moon, of course — a duo that really sounds nothing like their prior musical commitments. In fact, the 12-song freak-out known as Licker's Last Leg stands alone as a catch-all rock record that, amidst all the creepy and squeaky effects, haphazardly lands somewhere between the Rolling Stones ("Balloon?") and Queens of the Stone Age ("Pin Eyed Boy"). Along the way, Goon Moon indulges in some deep psychedelic love vibes on a cover of the Bee Gees'(!) "Every Christian Lion Hearted Man Will Show You" and gets its prog on with "The Golden Ball," a 10-minute, eight-part foray into King Crimson-meets-The Beatles territory. Guest musicians include QOTSA's Josh Homme — no surprise, considering both White and Goss have worked with the band in the past. In fact, an overall stoner mentality permeates Licker's Last Leg, making it an adventurous, carefree listen meant to help while away a steamy summer afternoon or an even sweatier summer night.
