The dynamic duo of Duo Dynamic — multi-instrumentalists with a flair for creating non-threatening (some might even call it mellow) electronica music – lives up to its name on the debut CD, Unrest for Peace. But never mind the nonsense Ray Mathews and J. Kipling Forde spew in the promo materials accompanying the album, claiming that Unrest for Peace provides a "listening experience that will help us redefine our struggle in a world that can be dominated by hypocrisy, violence and cruelty." Even though music is, indeed, the great communicator, the nine songs on Unrest for Peace – or any other album, for that matter – are not going to change the course of world destiny. "Sliptime," however, will take receptive listeners on a moody journey through sonic deserts, exposing the multiple layers and textures of Duo Dynamic's distinct sound. Elsewhere, the beginning of "Jaspers Tone" echoes Yello's still-fun "Oh Yeah" and the smooth jazz of "Causeway" recalls romantic Sunday mornings. Despite its title, "Gasping" is the record's prettiest song, fusing delicate piano and an upbeat rhythm that will almost make you forget that Duo Dynamic's backbeat is fueled by Forde's percussive programming.
