Apostolum: Anedonia

Prologue: Apostolum have released a brooding & morose recording Anedonia unto the earth. The music, as you would expect after viewing the cover art, is mostly bleak & slow paced with characteristic growled style vocals. Fans of early Katanonia ("Brave" is covered) & My Dying Bride may find something in the vast emptiness displayed here, but others may find the epic song length (3 at over 8 minutes) a bit of an over-indulgence. This is even considering the short 34 minute overall playing time of the CD. The 3 original (sans the 1st, as it's really an intro) songs try to make the most out of a little. From the time you hit play the CD makes you wait about 4 minutes before you are greeted with the first growl and it could be argued that the atmosphere, cover song and drawn out originals may be masking a lack of material. The production standard is on par with a raw black metal release; creating more atmosphere than clarity. This is suitable because the band is certainly not trying to impress you with their playing (sorry, no finger-twisters here) or creative& clever song titles! (See: crucifiction) Rather, it seems to want you to embrace any dormant feeling of suicide you may harbor. If you are feeling down and out this may very well be your personal "Epilogue" soundtrack!

Also, just for fun, see if you can find the hidden 666 in the bands logo
