Would it surprise anyone that this collaboration between Markus Reuter and Pat Mastellotto smells vaguely like King Crimson? Probably not and thus it's hardly worth mentioning. What is worth mentioning is that the record caries a dark waft of melodic, understated progressive rock that in its best moments calls to mind Porcupine Tree getting it on (musically, at least) with the likes of Aphex Twin or one of Steven Wilson's side projects. Joined by the lovely and amazing Pamella Kurstin, Lisa Fletcher and Laura Scarborough on various tracks, the Reuter/Mastelotto axis of awe works best on the title cut, "So High," "Dig" and "Repulsive and Delicious." There are other, equally interesting moments throughout the record, though some wading is required––"11-11" takes too long to get to its point and "Black Well Monotony" asks that listeners take an active (occasionally too active) role in the experience. A nice collaborative curiosity and, one hopes, not the last of its kind from these two.
