This short 30 minute demo from the Swedish twin-guitar metal outfit follows on from two EP's released under the name of Soma Soul some years before. Four tracks of Tool-like heavy metal are epitomised by a deep penetrating bass, a technical wall-of drums and a patchy vocal performance which works better in its spoken form. The first track, "Our Floods", is an atmospheric song with a doom-laden riff dominating the scene. Things are more laid back on "Flow" where the spoken vocals and jangly guitar open up before the angst-ridden lyric draws in pounding bass and drums. The song moves between these two forms a couple of times giving it more development than its predecessor.
In the third number, "Without the Scars", we get a Tony Iommi style introductory guitar reminiscent of the Masters of Reality era but that is where the similarity ends as the song turns into a rather dreary dirge from here on. The best work on the album is reserved for the closing piece, "The Lucid". Despite less than stellar production, the band exhibit better composition and chord progressions and the vocals are well executed around a more sophisticated song structure. I particularly liked the Catherine Wheel like rapid-fire guitar soaring over the heavy bass and drums and the way the band have built in numerous tempo changes and a great climactic ending to boot.
Unfortunately as a whole, the album, at least in demo form, is short on production quality as well as content and promises more than it delivers.
