Antoine, Mark: Hi-Lo Split

If you have even the slightest aversion to smooth jazz, you'll probably want to avoid this set entirely but, for some of us, if it ain't smooth we can't groove and Mark Antoine's latest set has something for you if you fall into the latter set. Sure, "For A Smile" and the title cut creep by at a glacial pace in their final moments and the cover of "Spooky" feels less invigorating than a bowl of prunes, but Antoine does have a mastery over his instrument and the kind of velvet fog you don't have to commit to, the kind of stuff you can tune out, tune in or drop down with. Yes, "Forever" is so laid back it's horizontal but The Artist saves the day with "Cancun Blue." Kind of. Put this one on for your special lady and see what happens.
