Sea Of Desperation: Spiritual Lonely Pattern

Russian musician Lefthander gives us a 50-minute composition broken into eight separate pieces that amount to an interesting if sometimes flawed recording. Reminiscent of Rakoth, Agalloch and the like, the recording takes listeners on a dark and heavy journey via pieces such as "22nd November," "Cast Me Reflection" and "Follow The Lights." (The latter is my personal favorite from Spiritual Lonely Pattern.) While there's great musical variation, the constant doom/death growl vocals prove somewhat monochromatic, ultimately defeating what this otherwise talented artist has set forth. All that said, Lefthander has the grit and the guts to perhaps find himself on an American-based label one of these days.
